Job Title: Counselor - Elementary

Primary Purpose:

Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program at the assigned campus. Provide a proactive developmental program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree from accredited University
  • Master’s Degree from accredited University in Guidance Counseling
  • Valid Texas Counseling Certificate

 

Experience:

  • Three years successful teaching, preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teaches school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
  • Helps teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
  • Provides guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
  • Counsels individuals and small groups.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Works with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
  • Uses an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
  • Interprets tests and other appraisal results appropriately.
  • Plans school counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
  • Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of the school counseling program and makes changes based on findings.
  • Compiles, maintains and files all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
  • Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy relating to school counseling.
  • Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintains a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Models behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participates in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Articulates the school’s mission to community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.
  • Serves as a resource person in the community when requested.
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
