Primary Purpose:  Support the instructional needs of English language learners in an inclusive monolingual setting or bilingual dual immersion setting. Assist with the implementation of LPAC responsibilities for Bilingual and ESL program compliance in grades Pre-K-12, as assigned. LPAC responsibilities include OLPT testing of ELL students, arrangements and preparation of LPAC meetings, keeping records of LPAC procedures, maintaining documentation for ELLs’ cumulative folders, recording all LPAC-related required information in the web-based student data system (ELLEVATE/FOCUS/PEIMS), monitor ELLs failures reports and intervention procedures via LPAC decision-making at assigned campus; maintain inventory of all bilingual/ESL instructional support materials provided at assigned campus, and reporting findings and procedures to the Bilingual/ESL Department.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of study in an accredited institution of higher education preferred
  • Valid Texas Paraprofessional educational certificate preferred
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions
  • Ability to relate well with school personnel, parents, and the community
  • Ability to keep well organized reliable records
  • Proficient in computer skills; MS Word, Excel, and e-mail

Experience:

  • Two years of experience working with children, educational environment preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Instructional Support

  • Support classroom instruction and provide student intervention for ELLs as needed.
  • Responsible for the accuracy, completion, timely submission, and filing of all English Language Proficiency documents.
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary reports and documents for required LPAC meetings.
  • Follows required processes according to the LPAC manual for the identification, placement, reclassification, and review of all students in the Bilingual/ESL programs within PEIMS and district timelines.
  • Compiles data in order to prepare the LPAC forms, including state and local assessment data and teacher recommendations.
  • Collaborates with the PEIMS clerk to assure accurate coding of Bilingual/ ESL students.
  • Meets with LPAC Administrator and members regularly, presenting to the LPAC members the complete LPAC forms for their review and decision.
  • Records data on LPAC forms in order to determine which students will enter, re-enter, remain, or exit from the Bilingual/ESL program and ensure coding is correct for PEIMS and student information systems.
  • Utilizes the district LPAC paperwork data system to track students’ progress and pull reports that may be used in the decision-making process.
  • Administers the OLPT Test determined by the state in English and Spanish for identification purposes.
  • Administers the norm-referenced test used for reclassification purposes for students in grades 1 and 2 when needed.
  • Keeps close contact with all Bilingual/ESL teachers and makes available to them all LPAC and assessment information of English Language Learners (ELL).
  • Collaborates with Campus LPAC Administrator, Testing Coordinator, and the Bilingual/ESL Department to ensure accurate student data for all decision making processes.
  • Collaborate with campus administration, campus testing coordinator, and district Coordinator for ELLs to ensure that ELL students are administered TELPAS, as per state requirements (No testing- related responsibilities allowed).
  • Collaborate with campus LPAC administrator, campus testing coordinator, and district Coordinator for ELLs to ensure that ELL student STAAR designations are complete, recorded in student assessment platform (Testhound) and LPAC minutes as stated in LPAC meetings according to due dates.
  • Responsible for completing ELL Student Follow-Up Forms and reporting former ELL (Monitor Year 1, Monitor Year 2, etc.) student’s progress to LPAC members.
  • Monitor ELLs 6/9-weeks grading period failure report.
  • Ensure LPAC meetings to address ELL students’ failure and intervention plans.
  • Responsible for maintaining ELL student cumulative folders, including careful monitoring of compliance documents.
  • Participate in monthly meetings, staff development, and special events as directed by district Coordinator for ELLs.
  • Communicates and co-coordinate with campus LPAC Administrator the scheduling of initial, assessment, annual review, and failure LPAC meetings.
  • Serves as a liaison between the school and the parents of ELL students.

Other

  • Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, state and local board policy.
  • Perform other LPAC and Bilingual/ESL Department duties as assigned.

     The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following:

  • Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, moderate standing, stooping, bending, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of a computer. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. May require some lifting no more than 40lbs. Overtime is required as necessary, but not on a regular basis.
