Primary Purpose:
Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program at the assigned campus. Provide a proactive developmental program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited University
- Master’s Degree from accredited University in Guidance Counseling
- Valid Texas Counseling Certificate
Experience:
- Three years successful teaching, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teaches school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
- Helps teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
- Provides guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
- Counsels individuals and small groups.
- Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
- Works with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
- Uses an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
- Interprets tests and other appraisal results appropriately.
- Plans school counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
- Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of the school counseling program and makes changes based on findings.
- Compiles, maintains and files all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
- Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy relating to school counseling.
- Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintains a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Models behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Participates in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Articulates the school’s mission to community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.
- Serves as a resource person in the community when requested.
- Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned
