Job Title: Child Nutrition Coordinator

Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership in menu planning, menu analysis and nutrition education for the students of Little Elm ISD. Maintains and updates special diet orders for certain students. Ensures the nutritional data, menu, recipes, and production records are current and correct within nutritional analysis software.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or relevant field, preferred
- Registered and or Licensed Dietitian, Preferred
- Extensive knowledge of nutritional requirements for students and adults
- Knowledge of quantity food production methods, procedures and personnel management techniques
- Two years of school food service experience, Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of federal meal programs and nutritional requirements.
- Knowledge of quantity food preparation in a food service environment.
- Experience with food allergens and special diet menu development.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills for public speaking and communicating effectively with various groups.
- Computer skills-Excel, Google, Word, and Menu/Nutrient Analysis software.
- Proficient math skills to conduct nutrient analysis.
- Ability to multitask, appropriately prioritize, is detail-oriented, goal-driven, willing to learn, and assume responsibility.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsible for the development of all menus, production plans and records in accordance with USDA requirements and federal and state regulations, including special menus.
- Oversees and maintains the nutritional data collection, entering of weekly menus and recipes into nutrient analysis software database.
- Review and process all documentation regarding student nutritional services, especially special diets and food allergies, in a timely manner. Disseminate special diet information as needed to the Child Nutrition Manager, school nurse, and parents.
- Reviews food and non-food orders prior to submission to the vendor to ensure accuracy and that the orders are within budget guidelines.
- Responsible for USDA commodity program and planning menus to utilize commodities in a timely manner.
- Serves as a liaison with vendors. Reviews and authorize substitutions made by vendors on orders.
- Develop and maintain appropriate records such as vendor, bid lists and CN label filing system.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating the POS and inventory system, including all food items and prices.
- Monitor customer participation in accordance with the reports from each campus and make recommendations for menu selections based on findings.
- Conducts on-site visits and monitors for compliance consistent with standards for: meal service, compliance and customer service.
- Supervise the development of all production records and production record training issued to the Child Nutrition Managers and Specialists.
- Organize and oversee taste testing events
- Responsible for marketing the Child Nutrition program.
- Assist in the planning and future development of the department, including short- and long-range goals, budgeting, purchasing, staffing strategies, marketing and equipment needs.
- Attend and participate in all meetings as scheduled by the Child Nutrition Director, including SHAC meetings.
- Attend workshops, staff development sessions and other continuing education courses that will develop and maintain the Nutrition Coordinator’s professional credentials.
- Works flexible hours as needed to attend meetings, complete work projects and to deal with emergencies, etc.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with minimal supervision, exercise independent judgment and creativity, organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines, handle multiple projects simultaneously and quickly confirm to shifted priorities when necessary.
- Work at an assigned campus as needed.
- Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Little Elm ISD.
- Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Child Nutrition Director and the Little Elm ISD Administration.
Working conditions/physical requirements
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying; some stooping, bending, and kneeling; limited exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures. On site work is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
